Michael Hoppe holds a PhD in physics and joined BSI in 2016, where he was active in multiple areas, including the German eID, the implementation of the eIDAS regulation, remote electronic signature creation, and the development of a German mobile eID solution. Currently, he is responsible for the requirements and technical specifications of electronic security mechanisms in German official documents, such as passports, ID cards, and residence permits. In addition to his role at BSI, Michael actively supports the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in advancing their standards for machine-readable travel documents and serves as one of the editors of ICAO’s Doc 9303. With a focus on security, innovation, and global standards, he continues to shape the future of digital identity and travel document technologies.
