Dr. Matthias Peter heads the Division “Cryptography and Classified IT Management” at the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) since the beginning of 2025. He holds a diploma in mathematics with a minor in computer science from the University of Paderborn and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Luxembourg with a dissertation on Poisson transformations of harmonic differential forms. Since 2012, he has worked as a cryptologist at BSI and led the evaluation of ultra-mobile classified (VS-NfD) solutions based on Android from 2020 to 2024. Dr. Peter is co-author of the BSI standard AIS 20/31 on the evaluation of random number generators and a co-initiator of the Knox Native project. His professional focus lies in the evaluation, standardization, and advancement of cryptographic methods as well as in the secure design of classified IT systems. He is married and has two children.
