Challenges and Pathways in the Migration to Post-Quantum Cryptography
María Isabel González Vasco (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Catedrática de Excelencia)
Quantum computing poses a real threat to the cryptographic foundations that secure today’s digital world. Preparing for this shift requires a careful balance between scientific innovation and practical deployment. This talk provides an overview of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and the current standardization efforts, highlighting the technical and operational challenges of migration. We will discuss hybrid approaches, interoperability, and the importance of global cooperation and long-term security planning. The goal is to offer a clear perspective on how institutions can begin adapting their systems today to safeguarding trust in digital technologies for the decades ahead.
