EUDI Wallet: Perspectives and Challenges for ZKP and PQC

Anja Lehmann (Hasso Plattner Institute, Full Professor)
Gregor Seiler (IBM Research, Researcher)

The European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet aims to establish a comprehensive ecosystem for secure and privacy-preserving user authentication, and is supposed to become available to all EU citizens by the end of 2026. The underlying eIDAS regulation explicitly demands strong privacy guarantees from the wallet, such as selective disclosure and unlinkable authentication. The first part of the presentation will give an overview of the security and privacy requirements of the EUDI wallet, the currently planned solution and current advances towards the integration of ZKP-based approaches. In the second part, we will discuss various paths to quantum security for the EUDI wallet, and the current state of quantum-safe and privacy-preserving authentication protocols.
