Senior Expert Quantum-Safe Cryptography and Cryptographic Applications
Stephan joined the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in 2021, working on post-quantum cryptography with a focus on lattice-based schemes.
He was recently appointed as head of the division “Quantum-Safe Cryptography and Cryptographic Applications“ at BSI. Stephan is experienced in standardization, in particular as editor of ISO/IEC 18033-2 AMD2, which will include post-quantum key encapsulation mechanisms and in international work, for instance as the BSI representative in the French-Germain-Dutch co-chairing team for the EU work stream on PQC. Stephan holds a Ph.D. in pure mathematics (Number Theory) and is an assistant professor (Privatdozent) in Mathematics at University of Cologne in Germany.
